Techno-Babble:
Sound sampling via underlined track titles is achieved using java script "BatmoAudioPop" function and an embedded Flash player.
Sound sampling on a dial-up connection can be much quicker with Flash 6 because it uses mp3 streaming so a tune can begin to play before it has completely downloaded.
Music clips (mp3 files) for this page represent just a small portion of each full piece, created in stereo from wave files using a program called Cakewalk and the following process:
1. Create a wave file from the original audio track (using a utility such as Sound Blaster's Creative Recorder).
2. The wave file can be made to fade in/out using a utility such as Creative Wave Studio.
3. Launch Cakewalk.
4. Insert | Wave file into track 1.
5. Tools | Mixdown Audio | Export to file.
6. Key in a File Name; for Files of Type select Mp3.
7. Click on Export, set Sampling Rate = 22050, set Bit Rate = 32000, click Encode.
These music clips are approximately 1/3 the size of a "standard" mp3, which uses 44100 sampling rate. Their quality is acceptable (at least to Russ' ears) and it cuts down on overall server space consumption, as well as reducing loading time.
