All Stars” 6.00 – 7.00 – Cocktails / Canapes - Dinner 7.30
Hi everyone,
Last year was
great fun as usual, with over 90 attending. We have had many successful dinners
at the Old Scott House, but as we all know “nothing stays the same”.
There is no perfect location but we are delighted with our choice &
confident it will be another wonderful evening. Our band will again be
featured. As yet we have no special theme. I will be putting together a
collection of pictures, (some from our school days & many from our past
reunion dinners), to be shown on a screen. We will again be having the 50/50
draw. Bill & Susan Dunsmoor (members),
have arranged for two ‘Guest Passes’ for a round of golf, (including
cart) at the Donalda Club. They have agreed to join the winner at a date
to be arranged later. Draw tickets will be $ 10.00. Hopefully both draws will
cover all of our expenses.
Some may be having
health problems, have difficulty driving at night, etc. The poor current
economic conditions don’t help either but I hope you heed our school motto “CARPE
DIEM”. I remember all too well, two of our schoolmates, who for several years in a row,
promised me they would attend next year, (always ended up
making excuses), and never did join us. They
are no longer with us.
A little about the
dinner: the cost will be $ 60.00, which includes all the taxes
& tip. A salad, 3 choices for the main course; prime rib of beef,
chicken or vegetarian, a fantastic dessert, coffee or tea. On each table
will be a bottle of red &white wine with dinner. There will be a cash bar
for all drinks before dinner. Red or white house wine is $ 6.50, beer is
$ 6.00. Most other drinks are also available. While the band is
playing & we are laughing, telling old stories (with some bragging about
their grandchildren), finger foods will be served. We will be sitting at round
tables for eight, adjacent to the lounge areas. All on the ground floor, no
stairs, including washrooms. There is free parking in the lot adjacent to the
building.
Make sure
you mark the date on your calendar
We have to
guarantee a specific number of dinners by April 30. Please RSVP early
(also with your choice of main course). Even if you can’t stay for
dinner, remember you can always join us for a drink, mingle and listen to the
band.
Computers
aren’t perfect. Its ‘Murphy’s Law’ but I just started to have some computer
problems. So
please make sure I acknowledge receipt of your RSVP.
If driving, it may
be best to go south from the 401 Hwy on the Don Valley Parkway (Hwy 404)
to the first exit, York Mills Road, turn left (west)to the first stop light ,
turn left again (south),turn right at the stop street, then right again at
first street, leads directly into the club through gates. There is bus
service along York Mills Road from the subway station.
A taxi from the subway station is approximately $ 13.00.

I’m delighted to
say that teachers William Withrow & his beautiful wife June (EHCI’s first
sweethearts, married in 1948) along with Nick Purdue, Jim Smythe & Jack
Foote all plan to attend. Early replies,
from others planning to join us, Al Connolly -Vancouver, Bill & Jackie
Bell, Bob Pemberton, Bruce & Lorraine Kleinstuber, Dave & Shirley
Crombie, Noel Bambrough & Sylvia ‘McLennan’ both from Florida, Rod
Ranta, Shirley’Marshall’, Joanne ‘Davis’, Fred
&Verna & Greig. Bob & Adell
Pearson, Howie Hiscox. Regrets from Willy
Webster (who arrives in Toronto on May 6 - 1 day late) and Bob
Hancock. Both send their best wishes to all. Barry Redfern - Mexico
hopes to make it.
We will have a
list, (updated weekly) on our website, of those planning to attend. www.earlhaig50s.com Also check for any other updates or news.
We add several new schoolmates to our Master List each year & have tried to
keep up with the many changes to both email & addresses, but I know
we have lost contact with many. If there is a change, please tell us. Also remember that our dinners are held
in early May each year & information is available
on our website. Please check
with any classmates you are in contact with & pass along this invitation.
Last year we had a
small shortfall in covering our expenses. One of our main costs is the mailing
to those without email. There are over 300 on our Master List. There are about
120 who attend on a regular basis. It really is a fun night. Many
travel quite a distance & several fly in to join us. There are also
too many who never acknowledge receipt of letters or emails. There is no
extra cost for us to email information, but extra mailings do cost. We do want
to keep in touch with as many as possible, but quite a few, for sure, have lost
interest and never plan to join us. Also the committee is volunteering its time
& energy to keep this an annual event. So please take a moment &
let us know where you stand. Again if you do have email please tell us. There are also some with a recent email
change, so I will again list the many schoolmates added to our ‘In Memorium
List’ this year. The full list is on our website.

* To speed up & simplify
the signing in process, please bring cash.
* If you plan to attend, but don’t
want to make a commitment just yet, it is preferable to us that you
rsvp early, as long as you re-confirm by April 30. Please mention
it to me when you do rsvp
*In past years, there were usually
5 to10 who said they would attend & then not show up. Most often this
was partially offset by the 5 or so who would join us unannounced. We do
encourage all to join us, but this year we don’t have that luxury.
We have to guarantee & pay for the number
(including main course choice) we give to
the Donalda Club by May 1.
*Also if you are not
attending & would like to help out and at the same time participate in the
draw for the rounds of golf, just send me a cheque ($ 10.00 each ticket)
good luck and thank you. It would make a great gift to any golfer, for
family members and/or friends
The Donalda Club wants us to enjoy our evening &
will co-operate in any way they can to insure a fun evening for
all.
Russ
has a new CD, great songs, beautifully played.
I
suggest you click on the album cover below and listen to the songs.
I
asked him to bring some to our dinner, so if you wish, you will be able to purchase a copy. If you won’t be attending, you can go to his
website www.steppinback.com to buy it.
Bob
Clegg also will have a CD available
